APPROACH TO SUSTAINABILITY
Blumen Roots was started as a way to share high quality products with mother nature in mind. By offering small batch goods dyed with plant-based materials, customers can rest assure that Blumen Roots makes thoughtful decisions throughout the dyeing process to reduce our impact on the environment.

Here are some of the ways our decisions support a more sustainable textile industry:
Ethically foraged plants and locally grown flowers serve as the bulk of Blumen Roots materials.
All plant materials are composted at the end of the dyeing process, making their way back into the soil to enrich our flower beds and gardens.
We use 100% recycled padded mailers, wrapping paper, and boxes, which are all are reusable, compostable and biodegradable after they get to you.
Natural tannins such as rhubarb, avocado, indigo, and walnut hulls are used for mordanting whenever possible.
All dye baths are used until clear and remaining water is poured back into flower beds.
All mordant baths are reused at least four times, sometimes as often as seven times, to reduce waste and water. When finished, mordant baths are neutralized and disposed of properly.
Well-calculated dye baths and a resourceful rinsing station reduces the amount of water used to remove extra dye.
Energy efficient front load washing machine aids the scouring process, while saving energy and water.
Environmentally friendly scouring detergents and ph neutral soaps are used for after-wash, which helps keep harmful chemicals out of our water systems.
